Hanoi, a northern French influenced town, was lower key than Saigon (in the far south), though still incredibly noisy and caotic. I spent many an entertaining hour watching traffic from my 3rd floor balcony. Blaring shop loud speakers and taking one's life in one's hands are part of what one needs to steel one's nerves against everyday street life. Some of the joys are the lovely inner city lakeside promenade, the gorgeous whymsical water puppet theater, and eating from outdoor market food stalls.
The food was fabulous...
